Marco Nolli was born on November 3, 1964. He attended the International Violinmaking School of Cremona getting his diploma in 1983, under the guidance of Masters Giorgio Scolari and Stefano Conia. After his studies, he worked in Master Scolari's workshop, where he could perfect his style, learning and getting also the art of doublebass making.

Marco has participated in many national and international violinmaking competitions. Below is a partial list of his accomplishments.

1987 - silver medal at the Baveno Competition of violinmaking

1988 - silver medal at the Bagnacavallo Competition

1988 - gold medal and "premio acquisto"at the V International Competition of violinmaking "Antonio Stradivari" of Cremona

1992 - silver medal (2) for a viola and a cello at the Bagnacavallo Competition

1993 - bronze medal at the Baveno Competition

1994 - first place at the VII International Competition of violinmaking "Antonio Stradivari" of Cremona and also a special prize for the youngest violinmaker in Doublebass section

2003 - silver medal and bronze medal at the at Triennale Competition for Double-bass ( no gold was awarded )


In his childhood he studied music, having played the trumpet, the double-bass, and also studying opera singing and chorus conducting. Marco's instruments are played by important musicians all over the globe. He makes violins, violas, cellos, double-basses. Marco also makes fine reproductions of ancient baroque instruments and also restores old and damaged instruments.
